Since opening in 1917, the Keller Auditorium in downtown Portland, Oregon, has entertained countless visitors with stellar performances of Broadway shows, ballets, and operas.
Hydro-Temp Mechanical (HTM) was tasked with replacing the historic building’s chilled and condenser water piping systems in 2021. With a four-month schedule, extreme spatial constraints, and ongoing use of the theater top of mind, HTM partnered with Victaulic to tackle the complex installation.
The accelerated pace of the project left no room for error. To minimize risk, the HTM and Victaulic Virtual Design & Construction teams collaborated to complete a 3D scan of the mechanical room and render an accurate virtual model of the space. Using the model, they accurately placed additional tie-in points, designed seismic bracing, and scheduled material deliveries.
The Victaulic systems provided the necessary speed and efficient installation to complete the job ahead of schedule. Meanwhile, by eliminating welding from the equation in favor of Victaulic grooved mechanical pipe-joining solutions, rehearsal and performance schedules remained undisturbed upstairs while workers assembled the new cooling system in the basement.
From laydown to installation, using Victaulic grooved pipe-joining solutions enabled HTM to complete the new cooling system in a week.
